Facing South Duo (Amanda Tiffin & Dave Ledbetter) collaborate with Brazilian maestro Guilherme Ribeiro
Renowned Cape Town acoustic duo, Facing South (David Ledbetter – guitar and Amanda Tiffin - vocals), teams up with visiting Brazilian maestro pianist / accordionist, Guilherme Ribeiro, and Sean Sanby on double bass for two nights of cross-cultural, acoustic magic.
The quartet will perform a selection of original material with a cross-cultural flavour, together with their special take on some Brazilian jazz classics.
Amanda and Dave are beyond excited to perform with Guilherme, who they first met and played with quite by chance at a Conference in Johannesburg in 2016. There was an instant synergy, and the trio was eager to collaborate further. “We made a very special connection with Guilherme, he is an exquisite player” enthuses Dave. “It has been a year in the planning, but we are absolutely confident the music we will make together will have been worth the wait!”
The first concert will be an intimate soiree-style evening presented by Kronendal Music Academy (KMA) Soirees, at the KMA Academy in Hout Bay, and will be on Friday 5 May, 7pm. Tickets are R180. For booking call 021 790 4457
Slow Life and Olympia Bakery present the second performance, on Saturday 6 May. This will be concert presented inside the old Olympia Bakery, Kalk Bay. Tickets are R150, bookings on quicket.co.za (Search for “Jazz Afro Brazilian”), or call 082 892 0350. Concert starts at 8pm.
Visiting from Sao Paulo, Brazil, accordionist and pianist, Guilherme Ribeiro is an acclaimed musician who has appeared and toured with a veritable who’s who list of Brazilian artists. He is also a respected composer and soloist in his own right, whose music is a blend of contemporary and Latin jazz with a strong Brazilian identity.
Guilherme Ribiero appears courtesy of the South African Jazz Educators Association and with grateful thanks to the Brazilian Cultural Programme and the Consulate General of Brazil in Cape Town.

Amanda is Head of Jazz Vocals at the University of Cape Town.
Both artists work extensively in a duo format in their home country: Deborah with Olivier Cahours, performing as Travelling Souls, which is the title of their debut album, released in 2016.As Facing South, Amanda and Dave Ledbetter have performed extensively in South Africa, and plan to release their debut recording later this year.
The four are thrilled to combine their shared love for jazz and world music, bringing the duos together to explore and create something fresh and exciting.
